In short: Warm and friendly staff. Great fish and sides. Delicious, non-pretentious comfort food. Wouldn't change a thing.

The hushpuppies were amazing and they made the honey butter fresh that day when my traveling companions and I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. We were unsure of what to expect as it looked like a dive on the outside, but looks were quite deceiving as the food was wonderful. The special was the fried veggies app, which had all of my favorite veggies breaded and fried with ranch dressing to dip. Mom and I shared a grilled seafood platter, flounder, shrimp and scallops. I'm fussy about the fish I eat, and the fish on that platter melted in my mouth. It was wonderful. Would definitely go back here again.

The food here is pretty good overall. However, there's no waiting area and in the middle of summer waiting outside is really hot. Additionally the bar isn't a full bar. They didn't have some of the most basic drinks, such as a piña colada or a frozen margarita. Overall decent, but not amazing.

We ate here on our first day of vacation. Tried several other places throughout the week but had to come back again for a second visit before we left. Tonight my wife had flounder and it was amazing( I ate a piece off of her plate). My mother in law had a streak and it was to die for too.( I had a couple of bites of it too!). I had grilled shrimp. Very delicious. Generous portions. And if your great at the door by a 68 year old man. Well that's the owner.

Very disappointed! We went to the Litchfield Beach Fish House based upon positive reviews and a recommendation from the front desk clerk at the hotel. While the atmosphere is nice enough, and Shari, our server, was quite personable this place was just "meh". We both ordered the blackened grouper fish tacos. What we each got were two soft tacos with a minuscule amount of fish, a large amount of pico de gallo (chopped tomatoes, onions, and water). There were a few bits of iceberg lettuce thrown in, and a tiny bit of shredded cheese. All this for $16.99 each. Ridiculous! Accompanied by cole slaw and a side of veggies that tasted frozen. Luckily, Shari saw the pitiful amount of fish and took one of them off the bill. Overall, the prices were terribly inflated for the quality of the food. They did have a cute little playground for the kids though. We won't be back, just the same.

Great food, great atmosphere. Fun local place. Bob, the owner, greeted every table and took special time with children giving them pirate hats & swords. Fried oysters and grilled scallops melted in your mouth. A new old favorite. We will be back!

Have been to this restaurant many times over quite a few years. The food is always delicious and fresh. Best friend oysters anywhere. The whole broiled fish is excellent, as is the mixed grill. Steamed vegetables are done to perfection, still a bit of crunch. Not at all soggy. Onion rings are crispy and delicious. Love the hush puppies too. Portions are generous. Owner stops by every table and makes sure everything is as it should be. Service is prompt. Not much in the way of atmosphere, it is quite rustic, but that makes it interesting. There are games for children to play while waiting, thus avoiding impatient unhappy children.

We have had several people recommend this place. Charlie was a great waitress. The place wasn't that busy but it took awhile to get our food. I got the shrimp and grits and they weren't that great (kind of watered down in my opinion). My dad got the Cajun grilled flounder and that was pretty good. Bob was walking around greeting all the tables. Overall great atmosphere...food could be better.

Great food without the pretentiousness of other restaurants. I've been visiting Litchfield Beach most of my life and this place is always a definite stop. The Fish House is not trying to pretend to be anything it's not, it's a local dive to get good, simple seafood and a drink. Dinner will cost around twenty per person, but the portions are generous and the food is usually spot on. It's nothing off the wall or cutting edge, but is good simple fried or grilled seafood. Service is friendly, but can drop in quality during rushes. The decor may be a little old, and this place can get crowded, but there is a reason they are still in business when other area restaurants have failed.

A great meal! Bob, the owner greeted us at the door and made us feel at home. I had an order of fried oysters. They were prepared perfectly. Our waiter/ bar tender was Kareem, and he was ready with our orders and drinks. We will be back.

Hushpuppies were Very tasty. Fish & Chips fish was fresh & perfectly done. Scallops were sweet & well prepared, expensive though & not a large portion. Mixed veggies & fries bland. Drinks mixed well & good size. Gumbo and shrimp platter were fair to good. Service friendly but pretty slow. Very casual attire. Dessert tasty. Prices reasonable.

I have been here twice and both times it has been great. The fried shrimp are perfectly cooked. And the staff is great with the kids.

Local catch...deliciously grilled fish & shrimp. Around $20 for adult plates (generous quantity); $6 for kids meals (not quite enough food for the older/hungrier kiddos, but plenty for a lil' youngster).

Our experience at Litchfield Fish House was fishy (in a good way). We all left crabby (in a good way). Be sure to try the crab cakes and the shecrab soup. The food was delicious!!! They were very accommodating to our dietary restrictions. The atmosphere was charming. Our waitress, Emma, was cheerful and attentive. The owner, Bob, greeted us at the door with a smile and a handshake and made us feel right at home.

"Not fancy-just fresh" is on sign and buy us it fresh & delicious. This is the best place around! The owner always seems to be there which is great. He is very nice and checked to make sure everything was satisfactory. He's owned it for 34 years so he must be doing something right. They start you off with a basket of soft, delicious hush puppies with honey butter. The she crab soup is phenomenal. It's similar to a cream based chowder with a hint of sweetness. I tried this soup at a highly recommended restaurant is Charleston and it didn't hold a candle to the she crab soup at the Fish House! Their side salads are great too-mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, red onions, & cucumbers. They make their own tarter sauce & cocktail sauce. My friend had the ribeye and said it was so good it didn't even need steak sauce. If you're adventurous they even have conch. I will always make time to stop here when I visit Pawleys Island. I was here for 5 days and had to eat here twice. Bonus- if you split an entree (comes with two sides) with someone they charge you $3 and you get two more sides (total of 4 sides). The only negative thing I can say is they are only open from 4 pm-9 pm.

Rode by many times before stopping in. Man I'm glad we finally did. Don't be deceived by the appearance. Local favorite and family owned. Very good fish dinners of all varieties. Large portions. Great shecrab soup and excellent hushpuppies. There was a kitchen problem the night we were there and the staff couldn't have been more apologetic.

We went with our family and kids with a strong recommendation. We wanted some quality simple beach sea food. Hush puppies, pop corn shrimp, gumbo. We left disappointed. Way over priced. Skip this place. Try something new.

Came here around 7:30 last night and they were closed.....lights out and door locked, but no sign stating they were closed(Sign says open til 9). Also saw a handwritten sign stating they were no longer taking their restaurant.com certificates, which is what brought me here in the first place. I was looking forward to some good food based on reviews, but unfortunately my expectations weren't met.

First visit here was not sure what to expect. Bob met us at the door as was previously stated in other reviews very pleasant. Our service was great and we received lots of attention. Our food was hot and fresh the hush puppies were good and the Beer was cold so I would say it a nice dinner and we will go back.

I used to come to this place as a lovely tradition when I came to litchfield my yearly beach trip. It was fantastic back in the day, however this year, I had a very unpleasant experience. The waiter would not accommodate us after messing up our order. The food took an hour to arrive. It was way over priced. On top of everything the quality of food we have loved for years was thrown out the window! I'm ashamed that they have reached this standard. I sincerely hope that they change for the better.

We went to the Fish House with a party of 10 on a Sunday evening in late August. We were seated promptly, and the waitress appeared immediately to take our drink order. She brought our drinks and arrived with two baskets of hush puppies to take our food order. When the food arrived It was fresh, local, and reasonably priced. The owner spoke to our group during the meal to make sure everything was in order, and he made us feel right at home. All in all, a very nice dining experience.

My family loves the Fish House. The food is excellent, prices very good for fresh seafood, owner is friendly and attentive to his patrons. We enjoy the casual atmosphere and the kids look forward to choosing a toy sea creature and playing on the custom pirate ship playground. The hush puppies with honey butter are heavenly.

Food was pretty good. Shrimp was a bit tough. We felt prices were more three dollar signs. Atmosphere was not that special. Waitress was nice.

Friendly staff. We drove over ahead of time to see when we could get a party of 9 in. They told us to come back at a certain time and they would have a table ready for us which they did. Then downhill from there. The waiter got our drink orders right away but when he brought them we said we were ready to order but he said he would have to come back. That took a while. Once the order was in, it took a long time to get our food. Somehow they completely forgot my son's order and had to reorder. The waiter said another waiter took it for their table? I don't understand why everyone is saying 'generous portions'. There were 4 onion rings and a small ramikan of coleslaw with the orders. When we asked for cocktail sauce, it didn't come quickly. I had shrimp and grits which was mediocre. Several at our table ordered Cajun shrimp and they all liked it. Hush puppies were good. Just seemed all overpriced. Don't know why it's so crowded.

Ate a late lunch. The owner came by our table several time to check on us. Food was quite good(fresh, lightly breaded and hot) and the atmosphere very interesting in a good way. Very kid friendly. Good experience.

Great place. NOT A TOURIST TRAP !!! Great hush puppies, outstanding clam chowder packed with clams. Wife had she crab soup thick and creamy. Best fresh flounder I've ever eaten, golden crust. Wife had catfish great like the flounder, Good sized portions with light, golden crust.. Try it, you'll like it !!!!

Tourist Trap! Server was friendly but didn't inform us of extra costs for side orders and split plate charge. We even asked what side orders were included in the meal and he indicated the potato and salad were included. Food was OK. Flounder had a lot of bones.

We tried this place after a fun day at Brookgreen Gardens. I was a little leery that it was a tourist trap from the road, but we tried it because of all the good reviews online. It has a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of nautical based items throughout the restaurant to keep your interest. The place is kid friendly and there is a shelf of games as you enter to keep them occupied while your order is cooking, also a pirate ship playground outside to amuse them. The beer selection is pretty good and the fish is fresh plus the scallops are real. My wife and I each got a seafood platter and we had the choice of our order being broiled or fried. The adult platter was just under $22 and it hit the spot. The Owner Bob, is very personable and after I mentioned that I collected old boat motors and that I liked the couple he had in the back room, he took me out to the outdoor porch area where he had a whole wall lined with them! My daughter opted for a hamburger and they grilled it on the charcoal grill out back. The wait staff was good and fast on this visit with refills as needed. I plan to go back the next time we're in the area.

Very nice people. They start you off with a basket of mini hush-puppies. Beware: they are sweet and good but GREASY! Don't over do it or you will have a tummy ache. They were expensive and I was not in the mood for the dull interior. I will go back next time but without kids.

Food was ok. I expected better for the area along the coast of SC. The decor was like a fishing shack. service and staff were friendly. Salad was just an ice berg mix. VERY pricey considering quality of food.

Over seasoned crab cakes, over cooked shrimp, rubbery "fresh" vegetables, and very slow service made for a disappointing dinner.

My parents visited it when they were in town, and they had stellar reports. The leftovers they dropped off at my place were very tasty. When I vist it myself I'll give a longer review.

Ok, so I will start out by saying that the food was good. I've had better, but not much. However, I give this place only one star because the service was dismal, in every way possible. We went on a Saturday night, but it wasn't super busy. I mean, it WAS busy, but there were a few empty tables around. We were seated immediately (and we had a large-ish party. Our waitress, according to the hostess, would only be serving us and the other large-ish party in the room with us). The waitress was nice enough, took our order, and got us drinks. Then we proceeded to sit there for well over an hour before the food started coming out. When it did finally come out, almost every single meal was incorrect in some way. People had the wrong sides, fish was grilled instead of fried, and I was given a sampler, which includes a fish filet, scallops, oysters, and shrimp, WITHOUT THE FISH FILET! And what did the waitress do when we told her? Rather than a quick apology and back to the kitchen to fix the mess, she pulled out her pad and started trying to prove that the blame wasn't on her! We're not looking for someone to blame, we just want our food! The manger showed up about 5 minutes after we sat down to "make sure everything was going ok" but then was conveniently nowhere to be found by the time we were leaving several hours later.

We loved it! We've been coming to the Fish House for years and it's definitely had its ups and downs. This summer it seems like it's back on its game. The service was excellent. The basket of sea animals for the kids to play with is a definite bonus. The hush puppies are the best! We had the crab dip and it was delicious - lots of big chunks of crab. Also had the shrimp po boy. The shrimp was fresh and cooked perfectly. Will definitely be back next summer!!

  • Chitown D.

If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. It definitely has a "bar" feel, maybe because the bar is right in the center and seems to take up the majority of the place. The Jambalaya entree is more like an appetizer (we had to stop at another restaurant later for an entree salad, as my husband was still hungry.) The food is good and tasty, but overpriced, like many places in this area.

    (4)
  • Want You To Know G.

We found the food to be extremely pricey for what you got. My husband got a seafood combo where the fish was good, but that was it. I had the fish tacos which were just ok and again, terribly overpriced. Our kids were fine with their food, but they were not paying the bill. Staff was friendly enough however, but didn't make up for the mediocre food for the price. Very disappointing! :o(

Fresh food cooked perfectly. I got the seafood sampler, cajun grilled, and it was divine. Partner had the mixed grill which was also scrumptious. Large portions, friendly service...no frills, great food...we will return!

Great basic seafood restaurant. Fresh fish with local southern flavor.

  • Shan H.

It is what it is... great southern friendliness and basic good food. Bob, the owner, greets you as you walk in and Karim (sp?) at the bar keeps your drinks filled. The seafood is fresh and well prepared. We like this place.

  • Chris S.

Great seafood, too much for one to eat an entre. Good to split and then there was still extra. Good beer selection and fun atmosphere and the owners and wait staff were beyond great!

  • Maggie A.

The employees here are extremely friendly. We had to wait for over an hour to be seated, since apparently every place around here is closed on Sunday and this is the only one that was opened. I ordered the grilled shrimp and loved it. My fiance had the crabcake and liked it as well. If you're in the area, give this place a try. It's full of locals, which is always a good sign.

Just avoid. Horrible service, creepy owner, high prices and a crappy interior. Food is meh.

  • Rose M.

We all have our favorite restaurants at PI. Here's the scoop on The Fish House. It's noisy, busy, somewhat wild inside. The wait may be long. BUT............if you are dying for a fried oyster Po' Boy, you cannot beat this place!!! My suggestion is: order the oyster po boy and omit eating the bun. You will have plenty of oysters (because they are very generous), some lettuce and tomato, cole slaw and either fries or something else? onion rings maybe, I can't remember. Anyway, it's just a delightful place for lunch or dinner. Take a book or newspaper or play games on your phone while you wait....it's worth it.
